Yesterday evening the BBC documentary hosted by Andrew Marr, uniquely showed the crowded nature of our cities.
A clip from the program can be seen here. With each light representing 200 people, it shows crowded constellations of lights in our cities, where more than 20,000 people per square mile are “crammed, piled on top of each other”.
There is a desperate need for new housing to:
- accommodate the existing and the projected populations growth of 65 million people by 2016, reaching 71 million people by 2031. [Source: Office for National Statistics]
- in the 2001 census there was a 26% increase in single person households from 1991, new housing is needed to reflect these changes in living habits. [Source: Office for National Statistics]
